List of Things to Take When You Are Camping, in Wisconsin…

There’s excellent reason to believe that camping is great fun, provided you have everything you need once you arrive. Planning your trip, making a reservation, prepping food for few days and organizing your gear together can be quite exciting. With enough ideas for entertainment for both kids and adults, the trip is bound to be memorable.

For first timers, it is always helpful to know what to expect. A camping checklist is easier when you know what to take. Choose a Wisconsin campground before you head out, checking available amenities and activities is a good start.

Before you begin preparing, get ahead by making proper reservations. There is nothing worse than loading all your stuff and arriving at the camp grounds only to realize there are no more spots available.

Campgrounds do fill up quickly especially in spring and summer seasons. Since you will be sleeping outdoors most of the time, your tent is indeed your most important item. Get an early start so that you arrive in broad daylight to set up and pitch your tent. Make sure you practice setting up your tent at home so that you become familiar with the process once outdoors.

As part of your shelter, consider all comfort items on your list that will provide you with a better and more pleasurable experience. Sleeping pads, lanterns, extra blankets, folding chairs, are all elements providing for comfort and convenience.

Depending who you are camping with; be it friends, family or kids, your experience will be different every time. Your checklist however will remain almost the same, more or less. Above all, know exactly what you will need. Scan your camping list to make sure it covers everything for all those who are present.

If you are bringing along kids, make sure you prep some food for them and bring along some snacks. Outdoor boomerangs and flying discs are always fun for kids to play with. Take your own stove and some waterproof matches. Having your own cooking system is much better than sharing one at the campgrounds. Besides, it is more convenient and quicker to access.

Prepare your food the night before and store it in zip-lock bags. Meats, vegetables, eggs, condiments and so on, should all be kept in separate bags. Make sure you have separate coolers for drinks as well as food. The worst thing to happen is to arrive at the campgrounds and notice your food supply is damp or has gone bad. Go over your checklist for all your camp kitchen needs, utensils, extra fuel and clean up kit.

Mostly, have fun and try to take time to explore the world around you. Engage in camp activities or create your own.

Fishing where allowed can be fun and beneficial. Playing cards, playing guitar, cooking and enjoying laughs around the camp fires provide the best times you can have.

For emergency purposes always keep a first aid kit handy. Use existing fire rings and keep it clean.

Date: Sunday, February 24, 2013

Location: North End Boat Launch, Lake Redstone, Wisconsin

Tournament Registration – At Hartje Farm, Home & Sports: S1428A State Road 33, La Valle, Wisconsin or at the North End the day of the tournament Headquarters – North End boat launch on Lake Redstone.

Registration will begin at 5:30am. Anglers may begin drilling holes by 6:30. Fishing begins at 7am. All anglers must be back at the launch by 1pm for the weigh-in.

Ice Fishing Format - 2 man teams. $50 dollar entry per team. Total weight of 6 biggest crappie & 6 biggest bluegill. Cash Payout for 1st and 2nd place teams, as well as for big fish.

If you’re on your way to work, Wisconsin vacation, cross-country skiing, sledding, snowmobiling, or ice-fishing, Hartje Farm, Home, and Sports provides multiple services for all of your central Wisconsin travel needs during this beautiful season.

Located in La Valle, Wisconsin, just a few minutes northwest of Reedsburg, Wisconsin, and about 35 minutes northwest of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, Hartje’s has all the bait, tackle, and cheese curds to keep your appetite satisfied.

La Valle, WI Area Events:

The La Valle Sportsman Club is having an ice fishing “fisheree” at Lake Redstone on January 26^th with prizes every hour for the largest fish and a cash raffle drawing. You can purchase your fishing or hunting licenses at Hartje Farm, Home, and Sports. The Sportsman Club is also having a coyote contest as of February 16^th with prizes for the largest and smallest coyotes.

La Valle, Wisconsin Things to Do

Other activities are also available in the area. Christmas Mountain Village is just a short 30 minute drive halfway between Reedsburg and Wisconsin Dells and offers downhill skiing with ski lifts and sledding.

Snowmobiling is definitely a to-do in Wisconsin! Right next to Hartje’s is located a great local business called Mittelstaedt Sports and Marine with a full array of snowmobiles and its parts for sale.

The 400 Trail offers 22 miles of snowmobiling that goes straight through La Valle and is seven miles in both directions to the nearest towns: south to Reedsburg and north to Wonewoc. The 400 Trail follows the Baraboo River some of the way and bridges over it several times.

Fishing For Rainbow Trout in Winter

If you have spent any time at all fishing for rainbow trout, you are probably well aware of the fact that fishing for these beautiful fish during the wintertime can be a bit of a challenge. That is of course unless you are fishing through the ice, where the trout fishing can be quite productive at times. But what about if your prefer to fish for rainbow trout in the flowing waters of a river or stream? Is it even worth bundling up and heading out in the winter?

Well, that depends on how much of you enjoy the act of fishing for rainbow trout. If you enjoy all the aspects of fishing for rainbow trout such as the smells in the air, the sounds of the river, and the serenity that comes from standing in a flowing river or stream, then the winter is definitely a time of the year that you should try fishing for some rainbows. During the winter the sights and sounds can be nothing short of breathtaking and are something every serious trout fisherman needs to experience.

The first factor to consider is that you are not going to experience the same success that you do during the more hospitable seasons. For example, during the spring, summer, and fall I personally expect to catch 3-10 trout every time that I head out fishing. During the winter I revise this number to 1 or 2 trout. This way my expectations aren’t all out of whack, because I know that fishing for rainbow trout in the winter is much less productive than at other times of the year.

The next factor to consider is the size of the bait or lure that you are going to use. The size of your bait or lure, just like your expectations, should be downsized. My friends who fly fish know this rule well, as the winter is known as “nymphing” time to many of them. For those of you who don’t know, a nymph, is a very small artificial fly. Well, this same rule applies to spin fishermen who are looking to catch a few rainbow winter rainbow trout. Use spinners and jigs that are as small as you can effectively cast and live baits such as maggots, grubs, or meal worms as bait during the winter months.

Finally, no matter what type of bait or lure you choose to use, make sure that you slow down your presentation as much as possible. Rainbows are very sluggish when the water temperature drops into the high thirties, so any meal that they eat needs to be moving as slowly as they are. Keep these simple tips in mind the next time that you head out in search of winter rainbow trout. You will not only experience more success, you will also enjoy yourself much more.

This year the La Valle Wisconsin Farmers Market will be bigger and better than ever.

With the addition of antiques, crafts, resale goods and rustic decor from the Cabin Shop shoppers will have a whole lot more to explore!

The Farmer’s Market will begin the Saturday of Memorial Weekend – May 26th and continue weekly until the last Saturday of October – the 27th.
